C Spire Business Solutions, (CSBS), the business services unit for C Spire has unveiled its new Advantage Fiber program in Mississippi’s fast-growing DeSoto County. The business division of Ridgeland, Miss.-based C Spire, CSBS has strategically positioned a portion of C Spire’s substantial fiber-optic network near 18 key economic development sites in the county, according to a CSBS press release.

CSBS Advantage Fiber also will be offered in other parts of Mississippi, at the recent DeSoto County Economic Development Council’s (EDC) annual meeting. The purpose of the program is to help community leaders and members of the EDC to more effectively market cities in the county to business owners and developers, according to Jim Flanagan, executive director of the DeSoto County EDC.

“Tools like the C Spire Advantage Fiber program can help put us at the top of the list when prospective employers are looking for a place to call home and bolster our efforts to drive job creation and incremental economic growth,” Flanagan noted.

The heart of the Advantage Fiber program is a regional database that identifies business and office parks that are within proximity of CSBS’ expansive 7,000-route miles of fiber optic infrastructure serving the Southeastern U.S. The database provides companies in the region, or those that are looking to relocate, with the visibility they need to make strategic decisions about expansion or making a move.

Access to fiber optics is an expectation for almost every industry,” said Larry Gigerich, managing director of Ginovus, a key contributor to the area’s latest development survey of the DeSoto County area.

In DeSoto County, CSBS fiber is located close to more than 300,000 square feet of building space, as well as 2,230 acres of industrial/development sites. CSBS has similar infrastructure serving nearly 1 million subscribers in nine other Mississippi counties, according to the press release.

“When companies come calling, we have renewed confidence that they can check off the access to fiber-based infrastructure and facilities box,” said Mississippi State Senator David Parker, who represents DeSoto County in the state legislature.

In addition to the enterprise-grade redundancy, voice, data and cloud services the network supports, Advantage Fiber customers also can access all the advantages of C Spire’s $23 million purpose-built and Uptime Institute-certified Tier 3 commercial data center, located in Northeast Mississippi.

Sometimes, potential investors are unaware of an area’s robust, fiber-based infrastructure, which in turn can lead to missed opportunities for  those investors, local businesses and economic developers, according to Brian Caraway, senior vice president of enterprise markets for CSBS. Advantage Fiber helps all interested parties to “avoid those circumstances,” he added.
